At Lugar dos Caniços, in Póvoa de Santa Iria, the Covina glass cutting and processing unit follows the alignments of the existing buildings.

At Lugar dos Caniços, in Póvoa de Santa Iria, in the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, COVINA – Companhia Vidreira Nacional commissioned a glass cutting and processing unit inside its industrial complex. The project holds PIN status — Projeto de Potencial Interesse Nacional, the Portuguese designation for projects of potential national interest.

The building follows the alignments set by the existing structures, with an overall occupation of the plot matching what the detailed plan then being drawn up proposed, and setbacks that observe the minimum distances required for heavy vehicle circulation.

It is on the same site that the Saint-Gobain group installed the Covilis plant, at the time the world’s largest producer of parabolic mirrors for concentrated solar power stations — an investment of over 20 million euros, with capacity for two million square metres of mirrors a year, mostly for export.
