6th Portuguese BIM Congress

FEUP auditorium prepared for the 6th Portuguese BIM Congress

The congress brought together research, professional practice and public policy for the construction sector's digital transformation.

We attended the 6th Portuguese Congress on Building Information Modelling, held at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto between 17 and 19 June 2026.

The congress

The programme included 120 papers organised into nine themes: education, dissemination and professional training; BIM implementation and procurement; openBIM and interoperability; industrialised construction; immersive environments and dynamic systems; reality capture and heritage management; infrastructure and engineering disciplines; artificial intelligence, robotics and automation; sustainability and energy performance.

Milena Feustel, chair of the EU BIM Task Group, set out the focus of the European working groups: digital building permits, the digital building logbook, affordable housing and security in the use of openBIM. In Portugal, GAIURB presented Vila Nova de Gaia’s digital permitting strategy, built on the municipality’s urban digital twin.

The proceedings are available on the congress website, bringing together the work presented over the three days.
