The first GECoRPA Congress
A day dedicated to understanding buildings and the methods that inform conservation and rehabilitation work.
We attended the 1st GECoRPA Congress on 5 March 2026, at the Order of Engineers auditorium in Lisbon. GECoRPA, the Portuguese heritage trade association, brought together four sessions of papers on the conservation and rehabilitation of built heritage in a single day, along with two special sessions: one by ICOMOS Portugal on the international charters and declarations; the other on choosing the mortars used to reset historic azulejos.
Getting to know the building first
An intervention without a diagnosis can worsen the problem it set out to solve. Among the papers presented, we would single out the dynamic testing at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, the photogrammetric survey and ground-penetrating radar tests at the Aqueduto da Usseira, and the survey of openings at the Palácio Nacional de Mafra.
